This word is not easily defined but refers to the total presence of God in all!

A tree or flower gives glory to God by being itself. For in being what God means it to be, it is imitating an idea which is in God and which is not distinct from the essence of God, and therefore a tree or flower imitates God by being itself. The more it is life itself, the more it is like God. Thomas Merton has written, “The whole character of the creation was determined by the fact that God was to become man and dwell in the midst of His own creation. Creation is therefore not a pre-established fact into which the Word will come and fit Himself as best He can at the appointed time. Creation is created and sustained in Him and by Him.” The problem or issue is that we as humans bury ourselves and others beneath the superficial culture and society in which we live and that fails to satisfy us and does not truly give worship and thanks to the Lord. It is our choice to work within our deepest human desires for interior unity and a sense of connectedness with the deepest part of self and not just the exterior. This is the meaning of inscape to make choices from within! We are all people and things a manifestation of the love of God. It is mans personal choice each and everyday, whether he will act on that choice!

The message of Jesus to His followers was difficult, but they had to make a choice. The right choice leads to eternal life. To choose to serve the Lord, to choose to faithfully eat the Body and drink the Blood of Christ and to abide in Christ is to use inscape! If we dare to say we desire to be disciples of Jesus, we must make the choice and know it is worth all the effort. As we approach the end of the summer season and begin the fall and a new school year, it is the right time to make the choice to, daily in prayer and weekly in worship, put our inscape together. Just to remember that God has not gone on vacation and left you in charge would be a great way to start this important choice. God is the twenty-four hour lifeguard on duty, but we need to recognize and act as if that is true.

Acting from within or making choices from the deepest and best part of our being is not easy. The teachings of Jesus, as recorded by St. John’s Gospel are not easy, warm, and sweet and make you feel good advice. John presents Jesus as an in-your-face, aggressive, take â€"no-prisoner personality. It is all black and white, tough and direct. In the early 1900’s a man was looking for adventurers to join him in discovering the South Pole. He placed ads in papers and journals that stated, “Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, long hours…” The ad drew 5,000 brave candidates. The lesson learned: People respond when they’re challenged to greatness. We are all challenged this week to work and act with choices from within â€"inscape- will you do it?
